Since the onset of the crises in the Anglophone Regions of Cameroon, we have observed some re-current negative trends in our communities which have been a call for concern: increase in unemployment and crime rates, juvenile delinquency, increase in the number of dependent children and old persons as well as negative physical health, mental health and psychological wellbeing etc.
The youths have become perpetrators of crime following repeated incidents of abuse and neglect by their parents and the community at large. One category of these young people who have been disproportionately affected is teenage girls who have become school dropouts due to unwanted pregnancies. Also, others who due to the crisis were not fortunate to go to safer Regions and continue schooling became idle and were eventually caught up in the web of these issues as well.
The level of dependent older persons have also increased after the migration, loss of shelter and sources of livelihood and death of their children living them lonely, unhappy depressed anxious, socially isolated, exploited, abused and unable to fend for themselves.
Hence the raison d’être for the creation of “Community Impact for Africa” -CIfA to inspire, educate, train and empower youths towards economic independence and entrepreneurship. To sum up, a quote by Helen Keller comes to mind: I am only one, but still I am one . I cannot do everything, but still I can do something and because i cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do”.
